Choose a rug by measuring your room and furniture first. Mark the proposed outline on the floor to check the scale, walkways and door clearance. Available sizes vary by product; always check the product listing before ordering.

Living rooms

Use a rug to connect your seating area. Consider placing the front legs of your sofa and chairs on the rug, or all legs on a larger rug. Leave comfortable walkways around the arrangement.

Dining rooms

Measure your table with the chairs pulled out. Choose a rug large enough to keep the chair legs on the rug during normal use.

Bedrooms

Check how far you want the rug to extend beside and beyond the bed. Allow space for doors and nearby furniture.

Hallway runners

Measure the clear length and width of the hallway. Leave visible flooring at the edges and check that doors can open freely over the rug.

Round rugs

Measure the diameter against your room layout. Round rugs can define a seating nook or work beneath a round table when there is enough space for the chairs.
